Pan

Pan
Aaron and I went to see Pan’s Labyrinth on Sunday, it was damn good, very interesting, and violent. But I couldn’t help but think it was still a fairy tale that, though brutal at times, was still appropriate for your kids; if you taught them right. I’m afraid that we spend more time shielding the youth from the inevitabilities of life, and that there’s no great harm to show them a movie that takes a very serious approach to what evil men may do. I’m not saying that you *should* bring your kids, I’m just saying they could handle it if you’ve brought them up right, and that you believe you can expose them to human brutality.

This shot sort of reminds me of the organic style the creatures in the film had.

Night Post

Night Post
Taken the same night as this. I’ve been reluctant to post images from the same location twice, but given I don’t travel much [read: get out much] I’m going to be digging for quite some time. In all honesty I wanted to work on this one first, but something made me work on the smoky sky instead.

I’ve started watching Heroes, it’s…in a word;Amazing. It’s so weird though, that the dude I hated from Gilmore Girls can be the dude I like most in this…

Winter Bike

Winter Bike
What a balmy winter it’s been. Much more rain than snow, more warm than cold, it basically feels like spring without the excitement spring can bring.

My Opa taught me to ride a two-wheeler in the alley behind my grandparents house. I’m this little kid on an old bike, in a potholed alley, and his idea to keep me balanced was to attach a series of two by fours to the back of the bike so he could run behind while, supposedly, keeping me balanced. All that lump of wood on the back of the bike managed to do was throw me off balance, essentially popping a wheelie every time he let go. A sight it must have been, seeing a little kid on his red bike, front wheel in the air trailing 12 feet of timber and his grandfather puffing after him.

Stay on Target

Stay on Target
Why am I still excited by Star Wars? The new Trilogy effectively killed any joy I had left for the franchise after the *special* editions [Read: shitty editions]. My boss mentioned that his kids loved the Star Wars Trilogy, without even asking which I felt a tinge of joy, some pride for a series that has long since lost it’s lustre; but none of it’s appeal.

Oh man, I totally had Sushi 2 days in a row; it was fantastic.

Chilled with my cousin Lori last night, it was a good time, it’s too bad we didn’t hang out more as we were growing up, I think we’d make an unstoppable team of Van Leeuwenness. Also making for excitment was the arrival in the mail of my Director Label Series boxed Set Volume 2, and a replacement copy of The Work of Director Michel Gondry, which was decided to be no longer mine recently. Anyway, all of the DVD’s in the series I’ve watched so far have been absolutely fantastic, so seeing the new four will occupy my highly anticipated weekend.
