Winter Bike

Winter Bike
What a balmy winter it’s been. Much more rain than snow, more warm than cold, it basically feels like spring without the excitement spring can bring.

My Opa taught me to ride a two-wheeler in the alley behind my grandparents house. I’m this little kid on an old bike, in a potholed alley, and his idea to keep me balanced was to attach a series of two by fours to the back of the bike so he could run behind while, supposedly, keeping me balanced. All that lump of wood on the back of the bike managed to do was throw me off balance, essentially popping a wheelie every time he let go. A sight it must have been, seeing a little kid on his red bike, front wheel in the air trailing 12 feet of timber and his grandfather puffing after him.

I remember the first time I used hand brakes on a bike … I jammed on the front break and the back went right up over my head… SMASH into the ground. I like the pic, but I think you need to get them black levels up… Maybe I'm just into dark photoers.

Fantastic shot. I love the slight angle of the kid on the bike. Looks like such a peaceful afternoon. Neat story, too. Cracked me up.
